Habitot Children's Museum Celebrates 10th Anniversary
event image

(Berkeley, CA) Monday, April 14 – Saturday, April 19, 2008—
Celebrate a beloved community resource as Habitot Children's Museum marks its 10th Birthday and over 700,000 visitors! Join us for puppet shows, adoptable animals from the Berkeley Humane Society, parachute games, and more: a full week of festivities centered on play and learning. Each theme day focuses on a different topic - such as babies, families, neighborhoods, and pets – with art activities, special play stations, and story-telling: the hands-on family enrichment for which the non-profit, community-centered museum is known.

The Anniversary week culminates on Saturday, when children can decorate a papier-mâché birthday cake, dress up in costumes, and enjoy Loveee the Clown's magical visit. At 4 PM, everyone will blow out the candles on Habitot's birthday cake and have a slice! Throughout the week, visitors will be able to browse a display of memories, stories, and photographs from the first 10 years. This fun-filled week would be a great first time to experience Habitot – and a nostalgic trip down memory lane for families whose children grew up as "Habitot tots".

Coinciding with the Week of the Young Child, Habitot's 10th Anniversary celebration highlights the importance of play as a crucial form of learning for young children. Habitot has pioneered play-based learning in the Bay Area since it began in 1998, and continues to innovate as the museum launches into its next 10 years.

Habitot is located on 2065 Kittredge Street in downtown Berkeley. For updates on events and programs, please call (510) 647-1111 or visit Habitot's website at www.habitot.org.

About Habitot:
Habitot Children's Museum is the East Bay's award-winning hands-on discovery museum for young children. Its mission is to nurture and enrich the lives of young children, their families, and the adults who care for them by providing an environment for early childhood learning and exploration, parenting education and community outreach. Habitot ensures its accessibility for all Bay Area families through its Family Outreach Program, bringing more than 8,000 low-income and at-risk children into the museum every year through scholarships, subsidized memberships and free admissions days.

More than 700,000 people have enjoyed the museum's interactive exhibits, art programs and classes since its opening in 1998. Not just a place to entertain young children, Habitot provides resources and support for early childhood learning, parenting success, and community connection.
